Chris Pretty - Guide

Chris joined the Royal Marines in 1978 and served with 40 and 42 Commando, and with Royal Marines Poole. He saw service in Northern Ireland and as a Section 2i/c in the Falklands War in 1982 and has significant front line combat experience in both conflicts. Specialisations in the Royal Marines were military intelligence and reconnaissance. He is currently employed as a lecturer delivering and leading a Degree programme for the UEA. He is married to Dawn and they have four grown-up children and two grandchildren. He has a Masters degree in Military History and is a specialist in Conflict Landscape History, alongside a Teaching degree.

He has always been interested in military history and has been involved with several military history books as both a contributor, illustrator and editor. His particular area of interest is the ‘man on the ground’. He is currently writing a book for Pen and Sword about the Falklands Conflict of 1982 with particular emphasis on ‘the man on the ground’ on both sides.

He is also a fully-qualified climbing and mountaineering instructor and guide in all aspects of mountaineering throughout the world.
