Chris Pretty - Guide

Chris joined the Royal Marine Commandos in 1978 and served with 40 and 42 Commando, and with Royal Marines Poole. He saw service in Northern Ireland and as a Section 2ic in the Falklands War in 1982 and has significant front line combat experience in both conflicts. Specialisations in the Royal Marines were military intelligence and reconnaissance. He is currently employed as a Lecturer delivering and leading a Degree Programme for the UEA. He is married to Dawn and they have four grown up children and two grandchildren. He has a Masters degree specialising in Military History and is a specialist in Conflict Landscape History, alongside a Teaching degree.

He has always been interested in military history and has been involved with several military history books as both a contributor, illustrator and editor. His particular area of interest is the ‘man on the ground’. He is currently writing a book for Pen and Sword about the Falklands Conflict of 1982 with particular emphasis on ‘the man on the ground’ from both sides.

He is also a fully qualified climbing and mountaineering Instructor and guide specialising in all aspects of mountaineering throughout the world.
