For those studying any of the GCSE History Thematic Studies which focus on Migration in Britain over the past 1000 years, Anglia has created a bespoke tour which provides a broad understanding of the context of migration over time, using London's East End as a lens. This tour encompasses the experience of the Huguenot, Irish, Jewish, German and Asian migrants into this area, in particular experiences which may be set against further Case Study demands across the unit.
The walking tour will focus on sites in and around Spitalfields and Whitechapel and, supported by the use of images, testimonies and eye-witness accounts, will consider themes such as:
- The reasons for migration and patterns of settlement.
- The changing context of English society.
- The experience of migrants in England: their relations with the authorities, the media and the existing population.
- The impact of migrants in England, including culture, trade, industry and the urban environment.
- Legislation on immigration and nationality.
Meeting exam board specifications. Our tour content is mapped against the major examination board specifications for KS3 to KS5 students.
