About this trip

Our two 3-day, fully-guided, tours to Germany really can enhance the teaching and learning process for Pearson Edexcel's GCSE History module 'Weimar & Nazi Germany 1918-1939' - and that's not just our view. The itineraries for both have been endorsed by the exam board itself.

The Munich and Nuremberg tour begins by retracing the route of the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch and at locations en route we explore the rise of Hitler; look at why National Socialism took hold in Bavaria; and examine the role of the SA, covering many of the themes in key topics 1 & 2. The tour includes a visit to the former Concentration Camp at Dachau where students will examine the establishment of the camp system; the role of the SS; the persecution of various groups and individuals; and the development of a police state (key topics 3.2 and 4.1). We then conclude in Nuremberg where, walking the Party Rally Ground and visiting the excellent Documentation Centre for Fascination and Terror, the group will look at how the Nazi party harnessed propaganda to achieve mass popularity and control culture (key topic 4.2).

For those who would prefer to travel to Berlin we start with a walking tour which includes sites such as the Lustgarten, the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate and a guided tour of the excellent German Historical Museum, where we focus on themes such as; the origins of, and threats to, the Weimar Republic; where support for the NSDAP came from; how did Hitler become Chancellor? (key topics 1& 2). This is followed by a visit to the Sachsenhausen Memorial and the Topography of the Terrors, where we examine resistance to the Nazis and the experience of various groups and individuals persecuted by the Nazi regime (key topic 3) with the option of a guided tour of the former SA Prison in Papestrasse, site of an early concentration camp run by the SA Field Police in 1933.

Why choose Anglia for Guided History Trips?

At Anglia, we care about our customers, our staff, the places we visit, the stories we tell and the organisations we work with. These key principles define who we are and what we do. We believe they are also the reason why Anglia is the market leader in fully-guided history trips for UK schools. We work with you to design a bespoke tour, which meets the specific needs of your school and supports what you are teaching in class. We start by asking what you want your students to see and what you want them to experience then build the tour around these requirements. A tour which, as the testimonials on our website show, your students will find thought-provoking, engaging and enjoyable.

Please can you pass on my thanks to both John and Sean who did a fantastic job as our guides on Friday. They were engaging and exceptionally knowledgeable which was noted by both staff and pupils. I would thoroughly recommend you as a tour provider, and hope to use you guys again in the future!

We definitely will be looking to re-book with you for next academic year
